Mason Mount has completed his move from Chelsea to Manchester United.
The 24-year-old midfielder underwent a medical at the club on Monday and is currently under contract.
The Athletic The newspaper reported last week that United had reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Mount for a deal worth up to £60m ($75.7m).
“Leaving the club I grew up with is never easy, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for me in the next phase of my career,” said Mount. I know how strong the team is going to be and I can’t wait to join this group’s drive to win big trophies.
“It’s clear to everyone that the club has made great strides under Eric ten Haag. Having met with the manager and discussed his plans, I can’t be more excited for the season ahead. Be ready for the hard work expected here.
“I am very ambitious. I know how great it is to win a major trophy and what it takes to achieve it. I will do my best to experience it again with Manchester United. I’m going to do my best
Mount will wear the number 7 shirt at United, a number that has been vacant since Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al Nasr in December.
Manchester United’s director of football, John Murtaugh, said: “Mason is a very intelligent footballer with so many great technical qualities that he will make a great contribution to our team. Let’s go,” he added.
“We have long admired his talent and are delighted that he has chosen to take the next step in his career here at Old Trafford.
“His style of play and attributes are a perfect fit for this team and we all believe he will continue to grow with Eric ten Haag and his coaching staff.
“Mason himself is a world-class player, but he also has the ability to improve those around him through his game intelligence and tactical awareness. I was particularly impressed by his aspiration and thirst for further success.”
Chelsea chairman Todd Boley and co-owners Behdad Egbari and Jose E Feliciano said: “Mason is a consummate professional and a favorite at the club. His every effort at Chelsea on and off the pitch I would like to thank
A third bid worth £50m plus an extra £5m had been rejected six days earlier, but United have since agreed to pay the initial £55m plus a difficult £5m surcharge.
Mount is under contract at Old Trafford until 2028, with an option for a further year.

Erik ten Haag has fully supported the move of the 24-year-old Mount and has been following him since he spent the 2017-18 season on loan at Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem. Mount shined in March 2018 when Vitesse beat Ten Haag-owned Ajax 3-2.
Five years on, ten Haag want to bring Mount to Old Trafford. The reason for this is not only his on-ball technique, but importantly his off-ball application. He is seen at United as a modern midfielder capable of executing specific tactical directives and leading the press, a key element of Ten Hague’s approach.
His final season at Chelsea was plagued by injuries that prevented him from gaining a consistent position. However, he scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists in the Premier League in 2021-22, becoming one of only three players to do so that season. It’s this output United feeling that they can capitalize on further.
His versatility is also part of United’s appeal. He plays primarily as No. 10, a role that has been mostly played by Bruno Fernandes, but also by Wout Weghorst last season. Should Ten Hag choose to move Fernandez to the wing or rest, the mount offers a much better fit.
