This scholarship recognizes Charles White’s legacy in the education and artistic sectors of the world, as well as his influence on the Otis Faculty.
Mei-Lee Ney, Chair of Otis College’s Board of Trustees, partners with White’s son, C. Ian White, and the Charles White Archives to provide this great ten-million-dollar scholarship to scholars.

About Charles White Scholarship (Otis College of Art & Design)
Otis College of Art and Design, established in 1918, is a non-profit 501(c)3 institution and a national pioneer in art and design education.
The College’s mission is to train a diverse student body to become highly competent, informed, and responsible professionals capable of making a difference in the world.

Charles White Memorial Scholarship
The Charles White Memorial Scholarship is open to ministerial students who are from or currently work in the Pacific Western Region and have one or more of the following aims:. Parish work; religious education; clinical pastoral education; community ministry; and other allied UU ministries.
The Ministerial Credentialing Office offers limited scholarship monies to students engaged full-time or at least half-time in a Masters of Divinity degree program leading to fellowship as a Unitarian Universalist (UU) minister.
Aspirant or candidate status is required. The deadline for receiving financial applications each year is on or around April 15th.
Applicants for financial help are automatically reviewed for scholarships, and no extra information is necessary, unless otherwise specified.
Furthermore, priority is given to grantees who have shown extraordinary ministerial talent, followed by students in severe financial need, particularly those with historically underrepresented identities.
Grantees will largely be US and Canadian nationals, and if they continue to thrive academically and socially, they may be eligible for additional scholarships.

Prospective applicants should meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Must be a US citizen.
- Must identify as part of an underrepresented minority.
- proven a financial necessity.
- Strong artistic abilities and portfolio.
- GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Charles White Scholarship Application Timeline
Beginning in 2024, the Charles White Scholarship will award one person from Los Angeles County and one from elsewhere in the United States.
